Texas 4-H and FFA members will exhibit over 1,500 purebred gilts in the Junior Purebred Gilt Show representing eight of the most popular breeds in the US swine industry. These include Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spot, and Yorkshire. These six to eight month old gilts are shown within their breed by age. Each breed has different characteristics that make them valuable to the industry. Gilts are judged on their ability to be productive sows. Class winners vie for Top 5 within the breed. Breed Champions and Reserve Breed Champions then compete for Supreme Champion & Reserve Supreme Champion honors.
*If you are planning on bringing a large group of Purebred and Crossbred gilts, contact the Livestock Office for arrival instructions.
